History.
In 1971 Ian Thomson and Rob Adsett founded Thomson Adsett Architects. Trading in a one room studio in Brisbane, Australia, (pictured) the practice has grown steadily to now be one of the 100 largest architecture firms in the world, with over 25 principals. With growth has come expansion in both expertise and in geographical location. ThomsonAdsett has seven offices throughout Australia together with an international presence. We have established offices in many regional parts of Australia to more effectively service the local communities.
Quality.
ThomsonAdsett was one of the first Australian architectural practices to achieve quality assurance certification to international standards. We are continually upgrading our systems and standards to meet changes within the building industry.
Our Practice Directors disseminate information on product and industry changes to our teams. Our Design Leaders constructively assess the creative work of all teams via the Design Review process. Bi-annual audits are conducted by external assessors to ensure all aspects of our Quality Management System are being maintained and developed.
Staff.
We place great importance on maintaining continuity of personnel and therefore strive to provide opportunities for professional growth and development within the practice. We have an experienced and dynamic architectural team, many of whom have developed their long-term careers at ThomsonAdsett.
Our designers all have specialist knowledge in their chosen architectural fields. Many are considered by government and industry as authorities in their particular fields of expertise. One of ThomsonAdsett's strengths is the availibility of a number of Principals within each discipline to offer specialist advice on any project.
Capacity.
Each year, ThomsonAdsett undertakes hundreds of architectural commissions. The locations of these are widespread, many in areas remote from capital cities. We are fortunate to have the flexibility and resources to work on commissions of all sizes. We have partnering arrangements with local architecture firms across the world enabling us to deliver projects in countries where we do not have a physical presence.
All our studios are fully networked and resourced with the latest design and 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) software. Our integrated IT systems allow teams from different studios work in real-time on the same projects.
Specialist Design.
From time to time we are asked what we specialise in. First and foremost we are designers. We have traditionally been best known for our work in the areas of health, retail, education, aged care and civic architecture, but the fact is that we have experience in most every project type.
Our design expertise is constantly being honed with the daily challenges of a busy design studio. We also instil in our designers the drive to never stop learning and to always challenge the presuppositions. The result? No matter what the project type, we produce designs that apart from working well, also enhance surrounds and add value to the community.
