Cheerful Court

This pilot project for the Hong Kong Government comprises 325 units in a mixed-use ageing in place residential high-rise. The building’s podium contains social and recreational facilities; ancillary, medical and therapy services as well as retail shopping. ThomsonAdsett acted as the specialist Aged Care advisor providing design and management advice to the architects and operators.

The units are in configurations of bed-sit and one bed apartments. Lift and stair cores have been separated into three clusters to optimise resident and staff participation and serviceability. Landscaped gardens are provided on the podium and on the ‘sky terraces,’ as secure and quiet recreational and therapy spaces. Careful planning and design allowed the inclusion of social, recreational and therapeutic services within the same building. Key areas include restaurants, library, polyclinic, respite centre, games and activity spaces, meeting spaces and a pool/hydrotherapy centre. The intention was that this facility provided strong linkages to the community for the integration of day services.
