Flagstaff Pavilions

Flagstaff Hill Pavilions represents a modern interpretation to a Queensland vernacular style of architecture. The Pavilions consist of two luxury dwellings constructed on a steep hillside 1000 sqm lot. The commission offered the architect an opportunity to provide a unique Port Douglas property in a premier Queensland location. Combining traditional materials, features and typical styles of tropical form, emphasis was placed on creating buildings that were distinct in their own right and are imbued with a character that comes from the inclusion of artistic features, artisan objects and high quality fixtures and fittings.

Each dwelling, although closely juxtaposed, addresses and links with each other and the street in different aspects. Both dwellings have unique courtyard spaces and an active integration between indoor and outdoor living areas. The relationship that the building has with the landscaping additionally reinforces the essential elements of tropical living and the projects appropriateness of place.
