John XXIII Catholic Learning Precinct

This new learning precinct incorporates an early learning centre, primary school, secondary college and parish facilities.

The design followed two years of research with one of Australia’s leading educators into the best practice for promoting learning in the digital age within an integrated curriculum format. The resultant planning foreshadows the next generation of schools that will provide flexible and agile layouts that encourage teachers and students to work collaboratively rather than independently.

Driven by a vision to enable lifelong learning, the Diocese has sought to provide access for adult education to the parish and wider community. The site masterplanning facilitates access for school students, visitors and adult students at different times and without compromising the school’s duty of care. The axial entry way from the south enables out of hours access to specialist facilities and the learning resource centre.

The architectural treatment has attempted to ‘de-institutionalise’ the facility by creating a ‘business park’ feel. Two intersecting axes were conceived to represent the academic and spiritual aspirations of the community converging at a central gathering space at the centre of the campus.
