An urban renewal project in the heart of Kingaroy.
The Kingaroy Forecourt and Town Hall Precinct was identified by the South Burnett Regional Council as an important civic area requiring urban renewal. ThomsonAdsett's architectural response provides a built and landscaped solution that binds the eclectic mix of buildings together and accommodates a number of formal and informal spaces serving a variety of community and social needs.
A new face to the Town Hall adds modern design without alienating the site's traditional character, whilst a large podium area acts as both a stage for events held within the forecourt and as a formal transition space between the forecourt and hall. Large covered verandah linkages integrated into the new façade structures offer improved access to the facilities and provide a continuing aesthetic between the buildings.
The extended and refurbished library space and verandah provide a street presence and a new formal entry to the library. Large areas of the existing forecourt paving have been replaced with grassed areas and soft landscaping and provide a mix of casual and formal shaded seating.
In the end, a once barren and uninviting space has become a true public domain for visitors and residents, and a library space more befitting a regional centre.
