Shijiazhuang Hospital Masterplan

The alliance of ThomsonAdsett and HPI (TAHPI) were engaged to undertake the master plan for the proposed New Hospital in Shijiazhuang, approximately 280km South of Beijing. The project included the master planning and detailed schematic design for a new 210,000 sq m hospital campus with an estimated construction cost of RMB 1.65 billion.

The principal driver behind the master plan concept for the Shijiazhaung New Hospital project was to create an environment that was patient focussed, staff friendly, and that would deliver an optimal balance of Eastern and Western best practice in healthcare. Access to natural light has been emphasised for its contribution to the healing process and the creation of a pleasant working environment. Travel times and departmental relationships have been carefully considered to enhance patient, staff and visitor movement through the facility, and to reduce the perception of scale and distance. Vistas are created, often looking out over scenic gardens or contemplative pools, and activity nodes are strategically located to enhance interaction with, and passage through the facility.
